Part b of Webster's Dictionary defines Democracy as:

    a government in which the supreme power is 
    vested in the people and exercised by them 
    directly or indirectly through a system of 
    representation usually involving periodically 
    held free elections.

In essence, Americans are a part of the political process... we have a vote!!!

But what's it say about our democratic nation when the electoral college, not the popular vote determines the President?  The larger states with the majority of electoral votes determine the president.  Elections are usually over and the President is determined by the time votes are even tabulated in a western state like Oregon.

So I pose the question, how is America truly a democratic nation when the people of this "great" nation don't have a voice?

Protesters want to be heard, but most people feel they're wasting their time.  Activists are called extreme or stupid.  When a person goes postal for their beliefs, they get attention, but the perpetrator is usually written off as a lunatic or fanatical.  Most people won't write the president because little people don't make a difference.  Many don't waste their time writing congressmen.  

So what part of America is democratic?  

When and where do the people actually have a voice? 

Where and when can average, ordinary citizens actually make a difference?

People can make a difference in others' lives around them, friends, family, etc, but America truly isn't a democratic nation.  People really don't have a voice.  Those who try to have a voice are usually viewed by others as people who need to get a life.  People really can't make a difference in this so called democratic nation. 

I believe this is a big reason why so many people don't vote.  

If you do vote, don't listen to the crap you hear on TV.  Actually do some damned research so you have a clue what you're talking about.  Don't be like every other simpleton who tries to act like they know something when they don't know squat.
